Advantage You – It's All In The Timing!
Know someone who is a walking late pass in motion? Cast aspersions like; 'Oh! David, he's always half an hour late.' Or choose an earlier deadline in the hope that the task will be done on time?
How is it that some people are consistently late for meetings, let others down in their expectations and appear to stagger from one emergency to the next?
And what about the saying, 'If you want a job done well ask a busy person.' What gives a 'busy person' the ability to do more? We all have the same starting point; 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year and yet for many, life is a constant scramble to keep up.
The reality is that we can't manage time - time is what it is. However, we can identify and value what tasks or commitments are significant and choose the order we place on their completion. For some, clearing the smaller tasks first creates the space to focus on bigger responsibilities.
When we are overwhelmed with masses of 'things to do' or something we'd prefer not to do, procrastination can easily lure us away and in doing so, sets us up for being constantly 'behind.'
When we are clear about what we want to achieve, we achieve.
Efficient use of our time is largely about understanding how and when we work most productively. When we recognize our peak performance pattern, we can predict the best time to tackle difficult or overwhelming issues.
Worrying about how we're going to fit it all in can take up as much time as doing the tasks. Worry changes nothing and stops us from being proactive.
Are you taking on or creating more than you can realistically manage? Do you ever say no?
How we spend our time reveals our priorities. List the top seven things that take up your time starting with the one that dominates then ask yourself the following questions:
- Am I living a balanced life?
- What's missing from this list?
- If this were my last week on the planet would I be happy with how I spend my time?
Franklin D. Roosevelt said, "There are many ways of going forward, but only one way of standing still."
When you allow the space to develop strategies to create your Timing Advantage you will be the designer of your life.
Enjoy the journey,
