The Three Keys to Getting What You Want

Pamela Harrison

We all have dreams and aspirations but for many of us they remain just that - dreams.

How do you get what you want?

The first key is to create the outcome in your mind.

Create a detailed vision of your goal or aspiration and what its success looks and feels like?

When you create the vision, you are half way there.

It was Stephen Covey who said, "Begin with the end in mind." This is based on the principle that all things are created twice. There's a mental or first creation, and a physical or second creation to all things.

It makes a lot of sense when you consider how much effort and forethought we put into taking a holiday, building a house or raising our children.

Create your vision.

The second key is in the planning

What is the detail? Run the numbers, research the internet. How will you reach your goal? Break it down into smaller pieces. Is it realistic and achievable?

What are the steps you need to take to get there?

If your goal is to lose weight but you don't effect any change that helps you to eat less and exercise more, the chances of achieving your goal are slim (no pun intended) to none!

Our desire to have things can often exceed the desire to do what it takes to have them.

Create a plan and implement the steps that will get you to your goal.

The third key is perseverance

If you're not getting the result you intended, review your process. Ask what do I need to change? What can I do more of?

Business doesn't succeed into the future unless it continues to redefine goals and adapt to the inevitable changes along the way. It's the same for dreams and aspirations.

Ferret out possibilities and make choices. How can I do this better? What are the benefits?

And finally, what are the consequences of not creating the change you want to see in your world?

Footprint in the sand

So go ahead, dream big. Follow the three keys and turn your dreams into reality.

Enjoy the journey.
